19 June 2007 : In a first for Off Road Racing in Australia, Off Road Rush V8 Race Buggies hosted Hot Laps at the 2007 George Bailey Sea Lake Mallee Rally in Victoria on the June Long Weekend, 10th and 11th June 2007.
The Off Road Rush Crew conducted Hot Laps for the Land Owners, Sponsors of the Event, Volunteers and Spectators. The Sea Lake Event, which has been running for over 30 years, has Regional Development Victoria as a major sponsor of the Event.
Over 30 people got the chance to ride as a passenger in one of Off Road Rush’s
Lexus Powered V8 Pro Class Buggies. Off Road Rush which operates Drive Days in 5 locations around Australia were invited by the Sea Lake Off Road Club to conduct Hot Laps, a first for any Off Road Event in Australia.
“Being able to have the opportunity to give back to Off Road Racing and support the land owners and sponsors for which without them events like Sea Lake would not happen was just awesome for us and our Team” says Chris Western, Director of Off Road Rush. “It was great to see some of the Landowners who haven’t been in a buggy for over 15 years have such an awesome time”
As well as conducting Hot Laps Off Road Rush entered 3 Pro Class Buggies in the Sea Lake event, Car 61 – Chris Western and Stewy Bishop, Car 63 – Brendan Hall and Steve Cheesman and Car 65 - Mick and Mark Van Moorsel.
A quality field of over 80 entries entered the event with a real mix of Buggies, Extreme 4WD’s and 2WD’s. The event which covers over 320km of rough terrain has been directed for the last 20 years by George Bailey of the Sea Lake Off Road Club.
David Simpson in a Nissan Turbo Pro Buggy won the event outright. Simpson, a Sea Lake Local won the event by 2 minutes from Off Road Rush’s Chris Western and Stewy Bishop in Car 61 in Outright 2nd Place, followed by Daniel Brown and George Apted in their Super 1650 buggy.
Off Road Rush operates regular drive days throughout Australia and the General Public can drive the same buggies that raced in the Sea Lake Event. They also have the Off Road Rush Navigators Programme where you can actually navigate for one of their Team Drivers in Off Road Events around Australia.
