We know that it is the girls that book the fellas in for a drive … so to help you out with making a choice
Q: What are Off Road V8 Buggies? A: They are like dune buggies but 3 times the size, about the same as a land cruiser with roll bars and all Q: Will he get to go fast? Yes — these cars are capable of 200km per hour. How fast drivers will go is dependant on their ability. Drivers must be driving in control at all times and safety is paramount. Our Instructors will let the drivers go as hard as they like providing they are in control. Our Off Road Buggies have V8 Lexus engines in them with a Renault or Porsche gearbox combination.
Q: Are the buggies safe? They are certified by CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motorsport) which is the governing body of Motorsport Events in Australia. They have roll cages and the latest components on them. Off Road Rush Race their cars competitively in the Australian Off Road Championship, the same ones that the General Public get to drive, so our Race Cars are checked (or scrutineered) on a regular basis by CAMS Officials before Off Road Events.
Q: He has done other driving experiences, what is different about this one? You get to drive REAL RACE CARS that CURRENTLY compete all over Australia. You have the opportunity to get sideways on the dirt, we don’t govern our vehicles and there is no other motor sport driving experience in Australia where we let you get air borne over jumps! Click here to view our photo gallery. There's some great action shots.
Q: Is he in the car by himself? No, he will have an instructor with him at all times. The Instructor and Driver will talk to each other through an intercom in the helmets. The purpose of the Instructor is to get him driving to the best of his ability and get him going quicker then he ever thought he would be able to. All of our Instructors currently compete in the Australian Off Road Racing Championship and they all hold CAMS National Off Road Licences.
Q: Which package should I book him on? We have two drive packages to choose from –
For both the Drive Packages we use the same cars, circuit and Instructors, it is just the number of laps that is different. If he isn’t keen on driving then we also have Hot Laps Packages. You can choose from a 1, 2 or 5 laps package. Choose from any of our locations (Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne,) to learn more, or from the left hand red menu buttons.
Q: What is a Hot Lap? Hot Laps are where you go as a passenger in the buggy and our Instructors drive you.
Heaps of fun also! These are also available for purchase on the day, time permitting, if you are coming as a spectator. You are welcome to upgrade his drive package – subject to availability – and you can pay the difference. Easy done and there is no additional charge to make this change of drive choice. Q: What if he is booked on the Intro Package and decided on the day to upgrade to the Extreme package? Again you are welcome to upgrade his drive package – subject to availability on the day – and you can pay the difference on the day. Easy done and there is no additional charge to make this change of drive choice. Q: Can the kids and I come and watch? Anything that spectators and drivers need to know? Yep, you are welcome come and watch, for more info about our locations — click here to view
Q: Can I video him or do you sell DVD’s? Off Road Rush do not produce DVD or video of the day however you can use your own camera to film, he can even take it with him during the hot laps to get some ‘in car race cam action’. Q: Does he need a special licence? No Drivers licence or special licence is required.
Q: Do you have a height or weight restriction? We can take a driver who weighs up to 140kg (308lbs) and up to approx. 201cm (6ft 9 in) tall. We suggest people with pre existing back and neck injuries do not participate.
Q: Are the buggies manual or automatic Yes — these cars have a race gearbox and they are all manuals. Even if you cant drive or haven’t driven a manual. Before our Instructors can either teach you how to do the gears or do the gears for you.
